The NJSBA Workshop 2016 SCHED and mobile app feature the same programming, speaker, and exhibitor information, however, schedules created on SCHED cannot be integrated to the mobile app.

To stay connected throughout Workshop 2016 and have your schedule on your smart device, please download the NJSBA Workshop mobile app available through the Apple App store or Google Play store by searching NJSBA Workshop 2016.

Analyzing Salary Guides
One of the hottest negotiations issues currently faced by school districts, this is more important than ever, since the embedded cost of increment in many existing teacher salary guides is greater than the settlement rate the district can afford. In this session, participants will do some exercises on "sample" guides to see how to analyze their own expiring guide as well as a union proposal.

Successful Superintendent Searches: Finding the Perfect Match
This hands-on session will cover all aspects of the superintendent search process - from the vacancy to the search process and through the transition to a new leadership. Participants will work in small groups on setting criteria for the search and reviewing the legality and relevancy of interview questions. Presenters will cover such topics as the development of a search calendar; the application; community and staff involvement; interviews; the board's role in choosing finalists; reference checking and negotiating the contract.

Team Building: Best Practices for a Successful Policy Committee
An effective policy committee helps guide board efforts in the development of well-researched and efficient policy. Board members will leave this action lab with information and resources for: 1) Identifying and establishing the priorities for policy development, updating and review; 2) Understanding the role and responsibility of the policy committee and chairperson; and 3) Exploring team building between the board, administration and staff. This action lab will include a PowerPoint presentation, group discussion, and group exercises. Resources will include: teambuilding methods, sample policies and procedures, policy benchmarks, and more.

Teacher Tenure and Discipline Policies
Session participants will receive an overview of the applicable statutory and regulatory procedures regarding increment withholding, tenure charges, suspensions and terminations. The session will also include discussion of recent law illuminating examples of permissible discipline.
