Improve Your District's Credit Rating
Participants will receive a brief overview of the rating process for their bonds, with most of the presentation focusing on those rating criteria over which school districts have the most control – financial practices, management, and policy adoption. Underlying economics, and state regulations restrict most districts’ ability to influence their credit rating, but steps can be taken to improve the financial management assessment score. The session will cover those areas of financial practices of most interest to the rating agencies, and will provide suggestions on how to best address rating agency expectations in these areas.

Transformation Objectives for Improving Outcomes for Urban Children
In 1991 the Paterson Public School District became a state-operated district. Since 2009, the school board and the state district superintendent have implemented strategies aligned with seven transformation objectives that have resulted in significant and, in some cases, historic improvements in academic and non-academic outcomes for students and staff. This session will explore the seven objectives: Staff capacity building; challenging curricula for all; healthy school cultures; a robust assessment system; teacher and principal evaluation systems, including pay for performance; high-impact interventions for low-performing students; and efficient and responsive district operations.
